I cant say from experience, but IMO I dont think a speedy would be useful for all the books, files, computer etc you need in school. You'd probably be better with a tote (that you say you dont like) or a messenger style bag that has easier access. I just think it would be hard to find the stuff in your bag. Plus if you get the 40, you might find it too large for evenings etc. Not sure if you were trying to kill 2 birds with one stone (school bag and night out kinda bag - I often try to do this and it just clouds my vision).Maybe look at the other totes or even a mens tote? or messenger bag. Even something like the BH might work better with its more upright structure. The speedy just seems too constricted of an opening and too slouchy. I think my files and books would end up getting wrinkled and crumpled in the bottom not to mention everytime you pull them out of the bag, you risk catching them on the zipper.
